This week the focus was placed on two styles of writing. I find that the sessions this week were very interesting and formative. They gave you a very interesting insight as to what is expected to be involved in this writing. I liked both forms of writing that was displayed. They were Narration and Expository writing. I like narration, because it is well formatted and it flows generally with ideas while still having the readers attention. Whereas when I am reading an expository I am trying to learn something.

The presentations were well developed and interesting as mentioned by Robvecia. They provided much information for us as teachers in training who will return to the classroom shortly with the essentials of preparing our students to become better writers. The two genres (narrative and expository) have different structures that must be clearly taught to ensure that students are able to develop well detailed stories and expository pieces with the relevant elements and parts of the pieces.

ReplyDeleteThis week focused on poetry writing. I found the presentation to be very informative and interseting. The presenters started the presentation by first defining the genre of writing. As the presentation continued, the different elements and poetic forms were well discussed. One form of poem known as formula poems were deeply discussed. I learnt about different formula poems such as I am poems, If I were poems, I used to...but now... poems just to name a few. The presenters also discussed some instructional procedures that could be implemented to make poetry interesting to students. Persons may view poetry as boring or difficult but if teachers approach poetry with excitement the students may become more interested in this genre of writing.
I agree, Abigail, these presentations were very informative. The presenters did break down the information and discussed it for us to be able to understand. I've learned about I am poems, poems that I didn't even know existed. Also Abigail, your right teachers should approach poetry with excitement and not just as a text for students to read.
DeleteThe presentations were indeed informative and helped to give more insight and clarifications about each writing genre mentioned/presented.
